“ This is an excellent collection from Josie and Mary Nugent,
two people who have tradition in their Co. Clare roots and who bring
sensitivity, understanding and skills in abundance to their music.
The tunes on the disc are very well chosen and every track of the fifteen
has something different to offer in terms of variety and special qualities
while at the same time there is a smooth flow of sound from start to finish.
Both Josie and Mary are players of a very high standard and there is plenty
of opportunity to hear this in the tunes which feature them individually.
In the duet tracks it is clear that they know each other’s playing very
well – as you might expect from two sisters – and this creates a sound
which is animated yet always comfortable. They are also joined by four
musician friends on various tracks who fit in very well with the overall
ambience of the disc. Whether it’s one of the beautiful slow airs or the
selection of fetching Swedish dance music or the old pure traditional
Irish tunes or Josie’s new composition Hills and Hollows which aptly titles
the disc, we’re hearing music which will continue to please and interest us
every time we listen. ”
